The coast offers some of the most enjoyable fishing in North Carolina. Unspoiled beaches and uncrowded waterways offer unparalleled opportunities for sportsmen and casual fishermen alike. Whether on a boat, at the pier, or sitting and looking out at the ocean, opportunities abound to catch and enjoy the seafood bounty our local waters offer.
Surf Fishing
Surf fishing may be the most popular type of fishing on Topsail Island. The relaxation of sitting on a sunny, pristine beach and watching the dolphins play is hard to beat.
You’ll need an appropriate rod, reel and rigs. A cooler for bait and a cooler for snacks and drinks, is a must. A fishing kit and rod holding spikes may be picked up at one of the local tackle/sport shops along with plenty of helpful advice for newbies and of course, a fishing license. Bring some beach chairs and before you know it, you'll be catching fish or at least having fun while trying.

North Carolina Fishing Licenses
Saltwater Fishing Licenses are required in North Carolina. They can be purchased online at: https://www.ncwildlife.org/Licensing/Hunting-Fishing-Trapping-Licenses or from a local tackle shop or an outdoor sports retailer that serves as a wildlife service agent. North Carolina fishing licenses are good for one year from the date of purchase unless otherwise noted on the license. All fishermen age 16 years and older are required to have a valid fishing license to fish in North Carolina waters. The exception are fishing piers. They are covered by a blanket license, so you don't have to worry about getting your own.
